Covered by Eric Clapton (notably on his 1994 album From the Cradle), it
is a blues song originally by Eddie Boyd which centers on themes of
extreme bad luck, false accusations, and overwhelming personal distress.
The lyrics portray a narrator feeling persecuted, falsely accused of crimes (murder, forgery, taxes), and unable to escape a dire situation, symbolizing a breaking point in life.
As far as the musical background is concerned, the job is uneasy for a bass player: there is very little support from the inconspicuous drums. Although some web sources set the tempo to 125 BPM (allegretto) it is in fact a third of it, that is 42 BPM (largo).
The video allows you to follow the chords, and I did my best to incorporate them. Tonic: green, subdominant: blue, dominant: red....
Key: D
Headphone with high level of bass is VERY HIGHLY recommended for better sound
Equipment: Epiphone EB0 bass guitar + Cort GE30B amplifier
Recording: mono, by a mobile phone
