The highlight of July 2022! RMR 614 "The Rainforest To Gold Rush" slowly pulls into the station at Nita Lake in Whistler BC. This is the 2nd last stop on this route before arriving at North Vancouver after a long journey from Jasper AB. The track in the station is on a tight curve so those steel wheels really scream as the train slows down. The power for 614 that day was RMRX 8013 and RMRX 8017. Even though in the thumbnail there is a steel bell on 8013 in reality it was disconnected sometime this year and replaced by an Eky-Rail E-Bell. It seems like Eky-Bells and Graham-White E-Bells are replacing most steel bells on locomotives nowadays. It's nice however that they left the nice gold steel bell on the locomotive as decoration. The only other railroad that has done a similar thing is the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad in the US. The Narrow Font K3L's are still on these locomotives and they sound great especially in the mountains and create an amazing doppler/echo noise. This is prevalent at crossings in this area. The scenery was the best part of filming this train. The Coast Mountains along with the forests, rivers, and lakes in this area make catching these trains more exciting. The only trains that use the Squamish Sub between Squamish and Williams Lake BC are RMR 613 and 614 only from May to October as well as being bi-weekly. CN trains 571/570 run as needed between Williams Lake and Squamish. This is either to move power transformers for BC Hydro, to move railcars in and out of storage on sidings, or very rarely to transport regular freight. The line has also been used in the past for CN to re-route trains incase the Vancouver-Kamloops mainline gets damaged by washouts. There are multiple angles in this video as well so you can see different views of the train heading down the line.
