http://www.10sworld.com/ - There are many technical components that go into the modern forehand. Good rotation from the hips and shoulders, loading of the legs, racquet head speed and spin. The place to begin in improving the forehand is the correct grip. I recommend to most players, to stay within an eastern to semi western grip on the forehand. This grip gives players to ability hit the most variety of drives and loops from different parts on the court. There are several ways to find the eastern forehand grip. One simple way is to use a straw and hold it as you grip the racquet. You can even hit the ball with the straw. If the straw is pointing up, you have an eastern grip. A semi western grip will have the straw pointing at a 45 degree angle, and a western the straw will be parallel to the ground. The eastern to semi western grip allows the racquet face to stay against the ball with the contact point in front. It is still easy to hit topspin to control, but a player can also flatten out the spin to be more offensive. A player can handle pace and can also move up and play the ball on the rise, which is helpful on transition shots coming forward to net. The optimal contact height is between the knees and the chest. A severe western grip makes it very difficult to hit a low ball, and with a continental grip the high ball is hard to control. A good player will move and not let the ball get above or below the preferred strike zone.
Key points

•This grip allows a variety of shots and spins from all areas of the court.
•The contact point should be in front of the body and close to waist level
•Although the eastern -- semiwestern grip has a large strike zone, do not
