Dr(Smt) Geetha Ravikumar
grew up in an atmosphere of music and received encouragement from her parents.She is a musician, musicologist in both Karnatic and Hindustani systems a RESEARCHER and also a Vina player. Music runs in her family, her mother and sister being her initial Guru's. She had her formal training from Veteran musicians.
'The Concept and Evolution of Raga in Hindustani and Karnatic music' was her Doctoral thesis. Besides being the visiting Professor of Music at the University of Mumbai for thirty years and further a Visiting Faculty in the Department log Music in the S.N.D.T Women's University for Mumbai nearly
more than fifteen years, she has written several Books including three detailed Guides on Music Appreciation. Her service in the Reserve Bank of India never came in the way of her singular devotion and dedication to Music. She is the recipient of the Fellowship of the Department of Culture, Govt of India and was also awarded the prestigious Justice K.T .Telang Fellowship for her Post Doctoral Research. She is an accomplished Singer both in Karnatic and Hindustani styles and a Graded Artist in All India Radio, Mumbai.
Dr(smt)Geetha Ravikumar has done an extensive research on Rare Krithis on Shree Ganesha of different Compositions composed by 50 Composers covering compositions on Varnam , Krithis, Tarangam, Nàmàlis,
Slokas, Dance and folk songs, Bhajans, Abhang of great Saints from Maharashtra , Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. These many variety of composition have not been sung or performed by any musicians till today. She has sung the compositions covering in several languages namely, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu,Tamil, Marathi, Hindi and Marwar dialect. Desiring to popularize these songs and compositions
worldwide the same are presented by her for music lovers through the medium of her You Tube Channel geetha mangalam.
