For patients with pleural effusion and using the Indwelling Pleural Catheter (IPC), the colour, consistency and smell of the drained fluid can give you important insights on what’s happening inside your body!
Here’s a quick guide on checking the fluid:
✅ Clear straw (or light yellow) colour = Normal
✅ Clear pinkish yellow colour = Normal
🚫 Bright red in colour, cloudy or foul-smelling = See a doctor at the nearest emergency department
