And here we go...the second episode!
I didn't expect such a response after the debut episode, but the massive feedback from you guys pushed me to intensify my search, and this time I managed to collect even more samples and sounds!
In this video, we will take a look at libraries such as:
Absynth Sounds Vol 1 - Sonic Expansion by Native Instruments;
Liqiud Grooves by Spectrasonics;
SAM Horns by ProjectSAM;
Percussive Adventures by East West.
...and a little bit of Roland JP-8000 synthesizer.
This time, I decided not only to show individual samples, but also to recreate some arrangements 1-to-1 with the original. Only raw samples, no FX included xd
And of course, quick notes:
1. I've only shown a few examples of where SAM Horns was used, but you can be sure that everything (or almost everything) you hear in the game from brass instruments is SAM Horns. In addition, Sam Trombones was also actively used in the game's soundtrack (based on an interview with Thomas by ComputerMusic UK).
2. Same with Liquid Grooves. I showed you some samples/arrangements from this library, but if you dig deeper, you can find that most of the drums arrangements in Jungle-themed music (Training, Fort, Pier, etc.) were created using samples from Liquid Grooves.
3. Remember how I mentioned in the previous episode that I could hardly find similar sounds in Absynth? Well, it turns out that Native Instruments released a separate bank disc at that time called “Absynth Sounds Vol 1 - Sonic Expansion.”
And thanks to user iMaс from the Discord server “VGM & Other Instrument Sources,” who, by a lucky coincidence, recently purchased this disc and shared it, I was able to listen all the presets from it — and found some matches!
4. It's a known fact that at that time (and perhaps even now) Thomas's kit list included a Roland JP-8000. Again, by a lucky coincidence, the guys from The Usual Suspects recently released their JE-8086 emulator, which became a reality thanks to the power of reverse engineering, and which can replicate the performance of that JP-8000 synthesizer!
This synthesizer brings a huge possibilities for creating unique sounds, and I'm not that a music composer, but was still able to find one factory patch that sounds exactly like the a few samples from FC's music xd
I think that's all I wanted to mention...
I hope you enjoy this video!
