During a period of putting together a personal mix-tape series based on Las Vegas (“Las Vegas, Damnit!”), I finally hunted down a vinyl copy of this EP called The Las Vegas Story on the Crosby label. It was released in 1960 and was sold in gift shops and given away as a promotional item by Mint Hotel & Casino.
Side one is a narration on the history with some sort of roller skating music in the background. Here’s what the liner notes says about this track:
“The “Las Vegas Story” is the true account of the World’s Greatest Resort City. Gus Giuffre, popular Las Vegas radio and TV personality, performs the narration. Stan Skiba, composer of the narration and background music entitled “Golden Nevada”, assists with the mood setting on the Lowery Organ.”
Side two is contains the song “Las Vegas’ by the Magnetics.
“”Eee-o-leven!” “Winn-err!” “Jackpot!” “Crraaps!” “Sevennn, A winner” All true action on the spot sounds typical of the gambling Casino in Las Vegas. Fast action and plenty of it, with a strong beat that rocks and rocks with the excitement at the Crap Game make this flip sound the HOTTEST CRAP GAME ON RECORD! With all of this action. The Magnetics rendition their “hot” version of the new hit song, “Las Vegas”, paced by Panama Bob Bownie composer of the tune. Assisting Panama Bob and the Magnetics are Jackie Moffit and Gabe Zampanti in the rhythm section. Yes-siree! The Dice are hot, the music is hot and THE RECORD IS HOT!“
….and that’s the record. I don’t own it and I don’t know who still does, other than the original publisher: copyright 1960 Skiba Publishing.
