Gerd Habermann was at Santa Pod Raceway in his Jet School Bus for the Flame and Thunder 2018 event. The bus is powered by a Westinghouse J-34 turbine jet engine with an afterburner, which pushes out up to 5000lbs of thrust. It is an American built Jet engine, circa 1946, which was used in the F2H Banshee, F3D Skynight and P-2 Neptune Jet planes. This was its first and only run of the day due to bad weather. It ran an 11.20 @ 127mph, although it is capable of running in the 9's at over 175mph. Shame it never got some more runs in. Next time !!
