Number Series is one of the most high-scoring yet challenging segments in the Reasoning section of SSC and AFCAT exams, demanding both mental agility and a deep understanding of numerical logic. In these exams, a Number Series typically presents a sequence of numbers following a specific hidden rule, requiring the aspirant to identify the pattern to find the missing term or the "wrong" number in the list. For SSC CGL and CHSL, the patterns often revolve around multi-step arithmetic, where the difference between terms follows its own secondary sequence, or "mixed series" that combine two different operations like multiplication followed by addition ($n \times 2 + 1$). In the AFCAT, the focus frequently shifts toward squares, cubes, and prime number gaps, testing a candidate's ability to recognize power-based relationships instantly.Success in these series depends on a "tactical toolkit" of patterns. Common logics include Arithmetic Series (constant addition or subtraction), Geometric Series (multiplication or division), and Square/Cube Series where terms are related to $n^2$ or $n^3$ with slight offsets. Another frequent pattern is the Fibonacci-style series, where each term is the sum of the preceding two. To master this for defense and staff selection exams, students must move beyond trial and error and learn to analyze the "slope" of the series: a gradual increase suggests addition, while a steep, explosive increase points toward multiplication or powers. Developing this speed is crucial for clearing the reasoning cutoff and securing a merit position
