Women’s History Month: In this video, we highlight the reason why Julia Tuttle moved to Miami and where she moved to.
You can’t talk about the fact that she moved to Fort Dallas without mentioning the Seminole Wars; and that part of what she owned used to be a plantation, with slave quarters, over 50 years before she got there.
You also can’t talk about Julia Tuttle without mentioning that she and the Brickell family were neighbors. She and the Brickell Family worked together with the goal of making Miami a place to be.
But you can’t mention the Brickell Family without mentioning the Tequesta Indians.
