These historic landmarks mark the beginning of Catholicism in the Philippines and are situated right next to City Hall in downtown Cebu city. Yet despite the uninterrupted strength of the Cebuano adopted Catholic faith, and the ambivalence of the country's leaders, poverty still dogs every corner of this city and indeed every corner of the Philippines. This video is a brief observation about some of the people inhabiting the downtown area who for whatever the reason, have become homeless and often go hungry. Ian MacGregor, an energetic Scotsman was so moved by the condition of these people he began handing out 50 or more meals each day sometimes 6 days a week in early 2008. City Hall and the Plaza Indepencia adjoining the historic Fort San Pedro, have under gone a complete make over in recent years making the area a much more socially inclusive space that many locals enjoy daily. The homeless and destitute are still around yet less prominent.
