Manic Pietro is a platform game that combines elements from Manic Miner and Mario Bros. You control Pietro, which is a clone of Mario. Pietro first saw the light of day in the game Pietro Bros (An improved remake of the old Mario Bros game):    • Pietro Bros (Mario Bros) (2016) Walkthroug...  

The game was first announced to be a remake of Manic Miner, but it turned out to be both a remake of Manic Miner and a completely new Manic Miner game featuring Pietro. It works the way that you have to complete the new game to get a code to get access to the remake of the original Manic Miner game. So you get two separate games and 2 x 20 levels in this game!

The new game with Pietro is competing surprisingly well with the old Manic Miner game. Instead of making completely new levels the game has got levels with backgrounds from old classic games, and also from a few newer ones. Now that Pietro is a Mario clone you will off course be playing on levels from the arcade game Mario Bros, NES Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Doctor Mario, and Bowser’s castle. But you will also have to go through levels from Pacman, Sonic the Hedgehog, Chuckie Egg, Bruce Lee, Jetpac, Horace and the Spiders etc. etc.

The design of the levels is really good, the platforms and enemies is placed so it is not too easy and not too hard to complete the levels. A few tries, and you will have figured the levels out – just like in the original Manic Miner game. When playing Manic Miner it is a kind of a special feeling, because you can remember all the levels, so it gives a good retro feeling to play this game, and you get the same kind of feeling when playing the new levels because they are inspired by old games. If you die you get a code so you don't have to start all over again.

Completing Manic Pietro gives us the code to activate the remake of the old Manic Miner game, and Manic Miner is a milestone for the video games, so making a remake of this game can easily go wrong. But actually there isn’t anything to complain about. The new version is exactly identical to the old 1983 version except it has enhanced colors by using the Nirvana+ engine, and AY music and fx instead of the beeper sounds. It controls and plays the same as the old version, which means that it plays and controls very well, and the same controls is off course used in the new game.

This is as retro as it gets, and it is also as good as it gets. Stunning visuals by using the Nirvana+ engine, nice and smooth animation, flawless control system, awesome playability, and nice AY tunes. 2 x super games!
