Описание: Sandakphu, the highest peak of West Bengal, is situated at an elevation of 3,636 m (11,930 ft) in the district of Darjeeling. From Sandakphu one can see four of the world's five highest peaks - Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Lhotse – all in one stretch. The Kanchenjunga massif is popularly known as ‘Sleeping Buddha’ as it appears to be the same in the imagination of the people. Indeed, the spectacular view of the ‘Sleeping Buddha’ is not only pleasing to the eye but also has a soothing effect on the mind. Mt Kumbhakarna forms the head and face of Buddha, while Kanchenjunga forms the upper body. Mt Pandim serves as the feet of ‘Sleeping Buddha’. Hence Pandim is looked upon as the most revered mountain of the Kanchenjunga cluster. The other peaks that form the ‘Sleeping Buddha’ are Kokthang, Rathong, Frey, Kabru South, Kabru North, Simvo, Tenzingkhang, Joponu, and Narsing.

The sunrise as seen from Sandakphu is a lifetime experience. The gradual change of colour of the entire Kanchenjunga range is simply scintillating.
