শুক্রবার সকালে, রংপুরে সাংবাদিকদের এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে তিনি এ কথা বলেন। এসময় তিনি আরো বলেন, রাজনৈতিক কৌশলের কারণে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বিশেষ দূত ও মন্ত্রিত্ব ছাড়বে জাপা নেতারা। এরশাদ বলেন,

'আমাদের ভাবমূর্তি বিনষ্ট হয়েছে। এটা ঠিক। আমরা সকলে একসাথে পদত্যাগ করব, তবে এটি রাজনৈতিক কৌশল, উপলব্ধি নয়। আমরা নির্বাচন করার জন্য শক্তি অর্জন করছি। যে নিয়মে নির্বাচন হয় সে নিয়মেই আমরা নির্বাচন করব। '

Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad said that foreigners have no right to interfere in the internal affairs of the country, his party will take part in the next election under the present government.
