Water treatment plants produce alum sludge as a byproduct when purifying drinking water for human consumption. While crucial for ensuring clean water, disposing of alum sludge is both costly and environmentally risky.
This Community of Practice features experts from SA Water and the University of South Australia. They talk about their research collaboration which investigates the use of alum sludge in eco-friendly, long-lasting concrete. Their conversation delves into leveraging alum sludge as a supplementary cementitious material to address concrete sewer system corrosion and explores its application as a partial sand replacement in concrete pavers.
