Sandra Raluca Izbașa, a former Romanian gymnast, started gymnastics at the age of four and won her first international medals at the age of 16. At the 4th European Individual Gymnastics Championships in Berlin in 2011, Izbașa won gold twice: she became European champion on both vault and floor. At the subsequent 2012 Olympic Games in London, she secured the bronze medal in the team competition with the Romanian women's team, while the US and Russian teams took the gold and silver medals. Izbașa also triumphed in the vault competition.
