"This is a human right of mobility which is being curbed and violated by urban planners who make a city entirely automobile dependent. I should have options about how I get from point A to point B. I should be able to walk, cycle, use a car, car pool, or use public transport. But if my city doesn't have any public transport, or is totally automobile dependent then my options of mobility are being reduced and my right to mobility is being violated."

"Over half of Pakistan's import bill is on petroleum products and 55% of our petroleum imports go to the automobile and the transport sector. So if we can reduce our automobile dependence we can reduce our import bill as well."

"Well I actually do cycle, I used to come from Defence (Lahore suburb) with a colleague so as long as there is another person with me, I'm happy to do it. If I was on my own I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. I wouldn't feel comfortable because I wouldn't feel safe, you know? People nudging you, pushing you, passing odd remarks. But the fact that you're in a group over here makes it easier and more acceptable somehow, to cycle, being a woman."

"This is a Sohrab (Pakistani brand) cycle and this is a Chinese cycle. Most Pakistanis buy Sohrabs because quality and material-wise they are the sturdiest. This Chinese make is bought more for it's prettiness, but you can't carry a lot of weight on it, it's no good. Most people who buy the Sohrab are people like milkmen, fruit vendors. They buy it mostly because it doesn't give them any problems. This one (Chinese-make) is for going to the office or going to school, it's mostly children that take this one."

LEAD IN:
A campaign is underway in Pakistan to get people to give up their cars and scooters and start pedalling.
The Critical Mass bicycle club in Lahore says the city's polluted and crowded streets are becoming no-go areas for cyclists and their rights to travel and live in a cleaner environment are being violated.
STORYLINE
Each day cycles, scooters and cars jostle for space on these hot and dusty roads that line Lahore.
But the city has made no concessions to the cyclists, or other types of travel.
