I feel I must dedicate this video to Mr 8spliced, his disdain for one bell towers having been all too apparent when I asked him if he was joining us at Crawshawbooth on the recent Lancs open day. One bell towers might on the surface seem boring and pointless but as a ringing installation they are of interest for many people.
I must also thank Fr Nick (niche2000) for a few things --
Firstly for the information about the church, the weight and date of the bell
Secondly for the already existing video here on YouTube which he has put together with pictures of the church which you must also watch
Thirdly for the entertainment on the organ. As you might have guessed the organ is dicrectly underneath the tower.
The imposing tower on the north side has four large pinnacles. Paley and Austin are the architects and the church was built at the end of the 19th century.
The tower is empty apart from a single bell. It was cast and installed in a composite frame for full circle ringing in 1897 by John Taylor & Co of Loughborough, and it weighs 21-0-7, or 1070kg.
There were members of the public up the tower looking at the bell so I decided to give them a bit more noise by bringing the bell down slightly.
Looking at the size of the tower it was no doubt intended that this bell would one day be joined by more to create a ringing peal.
I created this video by uploading three separate videos and joining them together with the YouTube Video Editor ( / editor .
