Quick video showing how to remove and replace the blue plastic gear on the TSDZ2 mid drive. Seems to be fairly easy to strip so I went with the metal replacement. Just a thin smear of ordinary grease, no problem now there is no plastic to worry about.
I can't say the metal gear is any louder than the plastic one but I haven't ridden it for a couple of weeks so its hard to tell. It's not a deal breaker anyway. I hope the manufacturers offer it as a option in the future, I would have paid the couple of dollars extra for it.
Metal gear is still going great after a couple of weeks, more responsive and noise is fine.
