Tel Aviv - Israel reportedly wants the United States (US) to attack Iran . However, US President Donald Trump reportedly prefers diplomacy, with the ultimate goal of ending Tehran's nuclear program.
This information, as reported by Turkish media, TRT World , Monday (2/2/2026), was revealed by a number of Israeli officials, who declined to be named, after a meeting of top US and Israeli generals at the Pentagon or the US Department of Defense on Friday (30/1) local time.
The meeting between General Dan Caine, who serves as Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and General Eyal Zamir , who serves as Chief of Staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, was not previously reported by the media, and was only revealed to the public on Sunday (1/2) local time.
Zamir reportedly flew to the US on a private jet, not a military aircraft, to avoid detection and try to persuade Washington to launch an attack on Tehran.
The generals' meeting was reported by Reuters, citing two anonymous US officials. However, the US officials did not elaborate on the topics discussed by the two generals at the Pentagon meeting.
A report by Israeli media outlet KAN on Sunday (February 1) stated that Zamir, who had just returned from the US, attended a security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with senior Israeli officials. Mossad Director David Barnea also attended the meeting.
At the security meeting, Zamir predicted that the US would launch a military attack on Iran "within the next two weeks to two months."
"This is a period of uncertainty," Zamir said in a security meeting with Netanyahu, as quoted by Israel's Army Radio.
After the security meeting, an unnamed Israeli official involved in the discussions said Trump wanted tough negotiations with Iran that, the official said, would lead to the dismantling of Tehran's nuclear program. But Tel Aviv, said the Israeli official, would prefer the US to attack Iran.
Israel even warned the US that refraining from such action would have “consequences,” including what it described as Iran’s progress toward acquiring nuclear weapons. Israeli officials also conveyed their "concerns" to their US counterparts regarding Iran's nuclear program. Israeli authorities have so far not released an official statement regarding the meeting.
In recent times, the US has increased its military presence and strengthened air defenses in the Middle East region, after Trump repeatedly threatened Iran and tried to pressure the country to sit down at the negotiating table. Iran's leader has warned of regional conflict if the US attacks it.
