Описание: Scientific visualisations are critical tools for engaging audiences in research. The degree to which science communications increases audience understanding and subject literacy, improves accessibility, or motivates change can depend on the quality of the graphics used. This webinar guided the audience through evidence-based approaches to making complex information comprehensible and welcoming.

The webinar was presented by Jen Christiansen, senior graphics editor at Scientific American and author of “Building Science Graphics: An illustrated guide to communicating science through diagrams and visualizations”. Jen will outline how science visualisations are used in science communication, and introduce evidence-based strategies for creating effective graphics for both expert and non-expert audiences. The webinar was hosted by Maria Scheel, a postdoc working on permafrost microbiomes at Wageningen University, and Simon Clark, the EGU projects manager.

This webinar is for any interested in effectively visualising their research, regardless of previous experience.

The webinar will lasted for one hour and concluded with an audience Q&A.

Speaker:
Jen Christiansen is a science communicator of the visual variety, who produces illustrated explanatory diagrams and data visualizations. Jen is the author of Building Science Graphics: An Illustrated Guide to Communicating Science through Diagrams and Visualizations (CRC press), and a senior graphics editor at Scientific American.

Maria Scheel is a postdoc working on permafrost microbiomes at Wageningen University. She also is one of the chief editors and authors of the EGU Cryosphere Division Blog, watercolour enthusiast and loves joining these two with science.
