Mahato, who gave up food and water on August 2 following continuous protests since July 5, stated that student grievances have been neglected for 26 years. Demanding system-wide reforms, exam cancellations, ED actions against corruption, and fast-track trials, he rejected the state government's offer to mediate via a five-member student delegation, calling such committees ineffective. Insisting on direct dialogue with Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Mahato issued a ultimatum: "Hemant Soren speak or resign." Despite health deterioration and appeals from activist Sonam Wangchuk to break his water fast, Mahato affirmed he will maintain his hunger strike until all demands are formally met.
