https://dtcuk.co/ This video is about dual carriageways. Firstly, what is a dual carriageway? Basically, it’s a road, usually with two or more lanes separated with a barrier which separates the traffic going in the opposite direction.
Anyway, regardless of the number of lanes, it will remain is single carriageway unless separated by a central reservation or barrier.
The national speed limit for dual carriageways is 70 mph.
Many learner drivers dread dual carriageway due to their high speed. In fact, dual carriageways are a lot safer than residential roads.
Most dual carriageways are joined via a slip road leading from a roundabout or a road. It’s most important to match the speed of the vehicles already on the carriageway.
Trying to join a dual carriageway at 35 mph when traffic is approaching at 70 mph can be highly dangerous. When you merge onto the carriageway, even though you can see the vehicles approaching in the mirrors, try looking over your right shoulder slightly. Just your chin to your shoulder. This is because although the lane on your right is clear, someone from the far right lane could be trying to come into the same lane.
Once you are on the carriageway, stay in the left-hand lane unless you are overtaking. Make safe but positive progress. Driving examiners do expect you to reach speeds of at least 50 mph. However, please leave a 2-second gap away from the driver in front.
When you exit a dual carriageway lookout for the countdown markers. Each marcher represents 100 yards. For the younger generation, there is not much difference between yards
