There's not much story to this one compared to VII or the Underworld games. The Ultima VIII manual spells out the entire game and the Avatar's mission/purpose.
Still, the Avatar has an opportunity to burgle and bash monsters, something she never passes up an opportunity to do.
Armor in Pagan is amazingly cheap while weapons are incredibly expensive. Fortunately, there are swords near enough to be borrowed and so the Avatar does so.
