A couple different ways to play electronic music live with a Launchpad and a Korg Nanokontrol (or any similar MIDI controller + Ableton Intro).
I decided to make this in response to a question on my video about making a live performance rig in Ableton, where someone asked if it's possible to perform electronic music live without needing any instruments or equipment; especially compared to the setup in my full live rig breakdown/tutorial vid:
• Making an Electronic Live Band Rig in Ableton
As someone who started out making music with just a laptop and nothing else, this question really resonated with me -- I wanted to show how it's 100% possible to perform live with Ableton & without needing much equipment at all, as it's exactly how I did things for my first few years of playing live & producing.
I couldn't slim the setup down to no equipment whatsoever, but I have narrowed things down to this diddly rig of a Novation Launchpad Mini & a Korg Nanokontrol2, and using the most affordable & basic version of Ableton Live Intro.
This is more of an electronic producer-approach to performing live than a musician's approach. It's meant to feel a bit similar to DJing tracks, but with the ability to 'edit' and mess around with the layers in your tracks using FX and simple controls to easily create variations in your electonic tracks live, in a neatly-contained rig that would fit in a backpack.
These are the simplest ways I could find to use Ableton as a beginner with my first live shows looming over me and without someone to teach me, & the only ways I could play my laptop-based productions live at first -- before I could play guitar, keys, or really knew Ableton that well.
