Now you see it, now you don't - The Gunlock Waterfalls

Описание: When we heard the Gunlock Falls in the red cliffs of Southern Utah were running, we dropped everything and headed for the south west corner of Utah. We also had been planning a trip here soon to meet with local model railroaders.

Every few years the Gunlock Waterfall comes to life. Any extra wet winter or sudden rain may cause the Gunlock Reservoir over-top and send a massive amount of water rushing down the cliffs above the Santa Clara River.

On Old Hwy 91, about 15 miles outside of St. George and about 5 miles past Kayenta, lies an amazing collage of red rock cliffs, moss covered rocks, rivers, streams, mint green colored pools, and waterfalls. On a hot summer day, what better way to cool off than to jump into these refreshing natural pools. Bring the family, a good friend, or even go solo and enjoy the serene views and sounds of rushing water. Gunlock is located in Washington County Utah near Saint George. The Santa Clara is infamous for flooding. And it was pushed “over the top” by a rare blizzard that dropped almost a foot of snow onto the normally warm and snow free climate.

We also visited the old home in Kayenta Utah and the Art Village. The area has a rich history and there are many interesting historical things to see. Including an old dam, wagon roads and to the north, the original state house.

AND a fun train ride operated by local modal railroaders. The Thunder Junction all Abilities Park which has a fun little train ride amid the other fun things for kids to do.
