I collect the star in the overworld after clearing Bowser's Rainbow Rumble in 0 A presses. This is TAS. This is an improvement off of the previous record of 1 A press, which was done by lemon and can be found here • [Outdated TAS] Bowser's Rainbow Rumble 1xA...
Since then I discovered Chuckya Wrong Throw, which I plan on making a more detailed video of at some point, but in essence Chuckya has a HOLP of sorts called its Anchor. Unlike Mario's HOLP, however, this isn't tied to a held object being rendered, but rather just the Chuckya being rendered at all. Through clever camera placement and control, we can grab Chuckya light while BCA and throw it to a preset HOLP, and have it deactivate due to being so far from Mario. Note that a light grab is necessary as otherwise it goes to the HOLP laterally but at Mario's height.
From there, we can render it on the frame we choose, then very carefully position the camera such that it will not be rendered at all during the remainder of the maneuver as it falls all the way down to Mario and grabs him. When Mario is grabbed by the Chuckya, he becomes invisible and intangible much like what happens when Mario grabs an object. Instead, what we see is a visual copy of Mario with a facing angle that matches Chuckya, at the position of the Anchor. Then, when Mario is thrown, his position is snapped to his last graphical position and play resumes as normal. This is how Chuckya is able to throw Mario out of bounds, even though Mario normally cannot move out of bounds.
So in essence, what we've just done is thrown Mario to the HOLP with the assistance of a Chuckya. This skips the entire level, which is known to be possible to do in 1xA, but a method to get past the tower in 0xA is not yet known. I was working on a way to do that, and was intending to use CWT to get Mario thrown inside the tower onto the brown platform with an otherwise unobtainable angle due to Chuckya's edge failsafe. I was struggling with that, and decided to look into a different method, where you throw Chuckya and render him at the peak of his trajectory, which gets the anchor incredibly high. I mentioned this in the SMSR ABC server, when Zerolin / @zerolingd came up with the idea to throw the Chuckya to the HOLP, which is the method just described and most well known for CWT at this point. I tested it, and it indeed worked, and I set off to make this massive project come to light.
This strategy was actually finished on 12/31/22, and I'm only just now uploading it because the improvement involves leaving the HOLP intact to continue with the rest of the stars, so in order to be complete it needed to finish every 0x star up top in one session, since it takes an A press to use the cannon to go to Star Road. This is the penultimate of 14 videos I will be uploading, with the next and final one being a supercut of all the stars in one long run, unabridged.
