The Puerto Rico cruise port at San Juan is one of the most popular cruise ports in the Caribbean. Tourism is especially popular during the dry season from December through April. The most popular month of the year to visit is March followed by December.
WEATHER TIPS: WHEN IS THE RAINY SEASON?
Puerto Rico has a long rainy season that goes from May through December when the average monthly rainfall ranges between four and six inches.
Historically, the month with the lowest risk of rain is February with an average of two inches. The months with the highest risk of rain are May, September and October with an average of almost six inches. September and October are the peak months of the Caribbean hurricane season.
Even through December is a popular month to visit, it has a higher than normal risk of rain. March is the best month to visit for a combination of warm weather and low risk of rain. April is better for temperatures but also has a higher risk of rain.
WHEN IS HURRICANE SEASON?
Puerto Rico weather also has a hurricane season like the rest of the Caribbean. It goes from June through November when the risk of tropical storms and hurricanes goes higher.
Major storms and hurricanes rarely hit the island directly. Instead, they pass in the vicinity and bring high winds and heavy rains. June and November have the lowest risk, followed by July and August.
AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Average daytime temperatures stay in a fairly narrow range between 84 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to 89 in the summer, although some days are warmer or cooler than average. These averages come from the U.S. National Weather Service.
Daytime temperatures in the low 80s during the winter sound appealing. But nighttime temperatures often drop into the 60s, which may make seawater too chilly for swimming, especially in the mornings.
