The AIEI program conducted multiple peer-to-peer exchanges in recent years on Balanced Mix Design (BMD) with the
objective of identifying and documenting what’s working, what isn’t, and where agencies should focus next. This session
turns those cross-State conversations into practical lessons for the asphalt community to support real-world pathways
towards implementation. The session will begin by framing the “why BMD?” case, followed by a walk-through of the most
common management, technical, and overlapping technical-managerial hurdles, and share proven strategies agencies
are using to overcome them.
