Cygnus Instruments Ltd and Flyability have teamed up to integrate Cygnus' reliable ultrasonic testing (UT) technology onto the collision-tolerant Elios 3 drone to bring you the most advanced aerial NDT solution on the market.

Lulu Crosthwaite-Eyre, Managing Director at Cygnus Instruments, and Adrien Briod, Co-Founder and CTO of Flyability, discuss the safety and efficiency benefits of conducting NDT inspections with a drone. The Elios 3 UT combines visual, thermal, and thickness measurements, making "the impossible possible" in confined, hard-to-reach spaces. This makes it the ideal tool for inspecting metallic assets like storage tanks, pipe racks, chimneys, and pressure vessels, but also to carry out inspections in the maritime, shipping, and power generation industries.

According to Lulu, a key advantage of having the Cygnus UT probe on the Elios 3 drone “is the repeatability of measurements, allowing users to log points of interest and use the LiDAR map to fly back for efficient corrosion monitoring.”

With the new tether option available, this solution is set to become a standard for NDT inspections.
