Here's what it's like to enter the extreme skiing offering in the Winter Park/Mary Jane Ski area in Colorado. Even days after a storm, still great snow back in the Cirque, especially for freeskiing. Here's what you can expect if you head back into that territory of the Winter Park Resort. If the snow cat is running, it's an easy trip. We walked in this day, about a mile and roughly 35 minutes to get back there walking the cat track. It's mostly flat but the last few hundred yards are down a gentle slope. From there, it's a steep drop in to any of the runs. It's steep, be prepared for it. There are a few places that are easier to go down like where we went, or if you want more, some drop in places are large drop offs and rock drop ins. Expect to see steepness from 40 to above 50 degrees. Stay in control and pre ski everything before just jumping off a rock as it may put you into a tree or another rock. There's something for everyone back there but you really should be a good skier or snowboarder to ever attempt it. There is no easy way down and the video just doesn't do it justice in terms of the higher consequence terrain. Stay in control, never ski it alone, and go have fun! The views are 2nd to none and the vastness is impressive.
