After about a month since its release, I finally got a hold of the Blancpain X Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Green Abyss.
I happened to have a day off from work and decided to take my chances to stop by one of the local Swatch retail stores to see if they might have some in stock by chance. and, luckily, they did..only 2. So, I took that as a sign that the opportunity was right to get one.
I was indifferent when the original set of 5 Scuba Fifty Fathoms came out. I mean it was another cool new collab between 2 Swatch Group brands. There will be fans and there will be haters for such things.
I was ok with it. But, I didn't jump on the hype train. Now that a couple of years, I think, has passed, I feel the hype around them has died.
Much like with the MoonSwatch, I sort of preferred getting into the Swatch collabs after the fact. And, much like the MoonSwatch, I only decided to go for one when I found one that stood out to me and I actually felt compelled to purchase and own.
Thus, here I am with a new Green Abyss. Something about this particular design and colors spoke to me. I think I like the subdued olive drab color which gives the watch a more military vibe. Which is great because the Blancpain Fify Fathoms has had a wide historic range as being used by military groups in the past.
So, a nice historic design in a relatively affordable package, I am pleased to add this to my watch collection and active watch rotation.
I think much like the 1965 MoonSwatch I picked up a few months ago earlier this year, these are fun representations of watches I like. BUT, I honestly will likely never buy the "real thing". Not to say they would not be worth it. But, for me, realistically looking at my modest income and my age, I have a lot of other watches I'd rather get and spend big money on before I ever touch those watches. If that plan and my income more importantly ever changes, then I might actually get a real Speedmaster and Blancpain. But, I definitely currently foresee that if and when I've saved up $5-10k+ for watches, that money would be prioritized towards other watches on a list I have in mind.
Anyways, this watch totally scratches the BP FF it's much like my 1965 MoonSwatch does for an Omega white dial Speedy.
