This video shares an early prototype of a customer portal designed as part of the Improving Local Building Control project.
Presented by Tom Gayler, Designer on the project, the prototype explores how local authority building control customers could more easily:
Track the progress of their application
Understand what’s been completed and what happens next
Book and manage site visits
Ask questions and see clear, recorded responses from the council
The portal is designed to support a wide range of people involved in a building control application — from domestic clients to contractors and principal designers — giving everyone better visibility of the process.
Key features demonstrated include:
Email-based access and progress notifications
A clear, end-to-end view of the application journey
Simple booking and management of site visits
A structured “ask a question” feature that feeds directly into back-office systems
Lambeth Council is one of the partner councils taking part in the alpha phase of this work.
This is an early prototype, shared to support collaboration, feedback, and learning as councils explore more transparent, resident-centred digital building control services.
