I think it’s very useful to learn how to say the same thing in several different ways. For example, how to say „are you kidding me/are you serious?” as a beginner in German and as a native German speaker.

Disclaimer: although last German phrase is frequently used, it can come as a bit rude and it’s definitely more slang than Hochdeutsch. So please be aware of this 🙂
