In this 8th guide to nailing a master break, I cover the following tips:
🎱 The ideal break-off
🎱 Identifying problems at the outset
🎱 Planning how to solve the problems
🎱 Selecting which colour to play
🎱 Prioritising shots based on position
🎱 Using running side
🎱 Nailing a double
🎱 Not letting difficult pots distract from good position
🎱 Using an opponent’s ball to control the cueball
Terms used:
BREAK - Potting a series of balls in turn.
BREAK-OFF - The first shot of the game, splitting the pack of balls up.
MASTER BREAK - Potting a ball on the break-off shot and then making a clearance, in the same turn. Also known as a “break-and-run” or a “break-and-dish”.
RAIL - The edge of the table. Also known as the “cushion”.
POSITION - The location (or intended location) of the cueball.
SIDE(-SPIN) - Hitting the cueball to the left or right side, so that it spins in that same direction when it hits the rail. Also known as “English”.
RUNNING SIDE - Using side-spin such that the cueball moves faster off the rail, causing wider angle bounce
CUSHION - See “rail”.
CANNON - When one ball strikes another (other than the cueball striking the object ball)
DOUBLE - When the object ball is potted off a rail, also known as a “bank shot”.
