🏰 About Vasota Fort

Vasota Fort, also known as Vyaghragad, is believed to have been built during the Shilahara dynasty and later controlled by the Marathas.
It served as a strategic defensive fort due to its natural protection—surrounded by dense forests, valleys, and the backwaters of Shivsagar Lake.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj reportedly visited and recognized it as an important stronghold.
Today, the fort lies in a protected forest zone, making the trek a perfect blend of history, wilderness, and adventure.

🚶‍♂️ How to Reach Vasota Fort

Base Village: Bamnoli

1. Reach Bamnoli Village

From Satara, take a bus or private vehicle to Bamnoli (approx. 35–40 km).

2. Boat Ride to Vasota Base

*From Bamnoli, you must take a government-approved boat across the beautiful Shivsagar Lake.
The ride is around 1 to 1.5 hours.

3. Trek to the Fort

The trek starts from the Vasota forest checkpoint.
Distance: 5 km one way
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Surrounded by dense jungle, rich wildlife, and panoramic views, the trail is a pure nature lover’s delight.

Important: Since Vasota lies within a protected wildlife area, permissions are required, and tents or night stays on the fort are not allowed.
