What's new in Remotion – October 2023

Here is a wrap-up of each feature:
➡️ New package: This update introduces a new package called @remotion/transitions that simplifies scene transitions. Choose between our presets or customize pretty much everything about the transition.
➡️ Guides and rulers: Users can now enable rulers and set guides in the Remotion Studio, enhancing design precision and alignment.
➡️ New API: The new watchStaticFile() API detects changes in static files, allowing for quick reloading and more efficient workflow.
➡️ Lambda Insights: Enhanced monitoring of functions is now possible with Lambda Insights, improving analytics and performance tracking.
➡️ New Polygon shape: A new polygon shape has been implemented to the @remotion/shapes package.
➡️ Faster ACC Encoder: The update brings a quicker rendering process through an improved AAC encoder (especially for long video renders on Lambda).
➡️ Faster warm Lambdas: If you render on a warm Lambda function, we now save about 5 seconds per render by reusing browser instances.
➡️ Audio Pitch Control: Users can change the audio pitch during rendering with a new toneFrequency prop.
➡️ Library starter template: This template simplifies the process of creating and publishing Remotion libraries.
➡️ Better docs: Updated documentation includes information on using GPUs on AWS EC2 and how to credit contributors.
➡️ New package: The new @remotion/layout-utils package has a function called mesureText(). This is a text measurement function for layout design.
➡️ New API: The new fillTextBox() API allows for more sophisticated text layouts.
➡️ New CLI command: Users can now determine GPU-accelerated features more easily with a new CLI command "npx remotion gpu".
➡️ Enhanced Visual Editing: With the new zTextArea() Zod type, we can have multi-line textarea in the Remotion Studio.
➡️ New API: Isolate the audio track from a video file with the new extractAudio() API.
➡️ Deploy Remotion Studio: This could enable non-programmers to create videos with Remotion.
➡️ Default codec: Now, it's possible to set a default codec for rendering a certain composition.
➡️ GIF speed: To make a GIF faster or slower, users can use the new playbackRate prop.

In addition to those features above, there have been many bug fixes as well. Upgrade your Remotion project by using "npx remotion upgrade".
