Epithalame (1891)
A piece for strings, three trombones and organ by Belgian composer Guillaume Lekeu (1870-1894), written for the wedding of his friend Antoine Grignard on April 28, 1891. In this work, Lekeu quotes from the Ophelia movement of his Second Symphonic Étude, which represents pure, heartfelt love (the Second Étude can also be found on my channel). Lekeu did not think very highly of his Epithalame, which was composed in under two weeks, and this is quite understandable in light of the fact that it was being composed at the same time as his remarkable Adagio for String Trio and String Orchestra (also available on my channel).
