Cannot find your furnace filter? Here is where to find it.
Jon, I'd like to ask you if you could help me locate the filter on my furnace.
Hey Alex, last week you asked me to help you get your cat down from a tree and now this? I mean doesn't it sound a bit strangest that you always ask me to help you with stuff?
You're the only handy man I know, so it's natural for me to call on you.
Well, I guess you're right on that one. First of all, you should know that in general you'll find the furnace filters in the duct system.
You don't say...
I do say. Anyway, locating your filter this way is generally the case on older furnaces, so if you have an old furnace, then you might want to keep this in mind.
So...
So you'll just need to start the air handler and then take things from there. This is because in my experience, there could be many places where you'll be able to find your filter from that point to the return air grill opening.
What if...
... you'd just pay attention to me? Nowadays, you'll find that there are return filters which are specifically designed so they can be installed in the return air grill.
OK, so how do they look?
Well, you'll be able to recognize them by the fact that they feature a special seal header that's incorporated in their design to reduce air bypass and also provide a seal around the filter.
This sounds really interesting and hi-tech.
It does. After you'll find the return duct, then you're in business.
Wow, thanks a lot for your help and I'm sorry to always ask you to help me.
It's ok, what are neighbors for if not helping their neighbors?
Haha, thanks man!
