Описание: Wes Streeting will not contest the Labour leadership against Andy Burnham. The former health secretary under Sir Keir Starmer has made the announcement following the Prime Minister's speech this morning (June 22), confirming his intention to resign.

It follows the thumping Makerfield by-election win for Mr Burnham last week, which saw Labour increase its vote share and hold off Reform UK. Mr Streeting had been considered the main potential rival for Mr Burnham to replace Sir Keir on Downing Street.

He resigned as health secretary one week after the dismal local elections for Labour and called on Sir Keir to go. Mr Streeting had also publicly discussed his ideas for the future of the country, and previously claimed he would have the required support of 81 MPs to spark a leadership contest.
