The story revolves around Vijay (Jeetendra) and his lookalike Vinod. Vijay is a meritorious student who faces financial difficulties when his mother is diagnosed with cancer. In an attempt to raise funds, Vijay tries to rob a house but is unsuccessful. However, he is surprised to find Vinod, his lookalike, who helps him with the money. Vinod, who is raised by a wealthy family, is mistreated by his uncle and cousin, who want to usurp his wealth. Vijay decides to help Vinod and switch their lives to set things right. The film follows the hilarious and heartwarming events that unfold as they navigate their new lives.

The film's music was composed by R. D. Burman.
