At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on March 3, 2026, Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana confronted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem over a $220 million taxpayer-funded television ad campaign that prominently features her. Kennedy questioned how Noem could justify the massive spending while simultaneously claiming to be fighting government waste, pointing out that one of the contractors selected - Safe America Media - was formed just 11 days before receiving the contract, and that the Strategy Group, which received the bulk of the money, is run by the husband of Noem's former DHS spokesperson.
