This German funicular is powered by gravity

Описание: Funiculars are used when many meters of altitude have to be overcome over a short distance. Two carts are firmly connected to each other via a rope and can be easily moved thanks to their balanced weight. However, the Nerobergbahn in Wiesbaden Germany is not driven by an electric motor but by weighting the upper car with water ballast. Up to 7000 liters are filled into the tank on the upper track. On its way down, the weighted car pulls the second train filled with passengers uphill. In 1888, when this railway was built, this was a very common principle for driving funiculars as it was easy to operate and maintain compared to the newfangled electric motor. In the past, the required water was pumped up the mountain using a steam engine. Today, and for many years now, an electric pump is used. The Nerobergbahn has been taking passengers up the Neroberg to enjoy the view for 130 years.

I am fascinated by the technology of the time, which has been in operation here almost unchanged for a century, and I take the opportunity to be taken up the mountain with the help of this unusual water power.
