Bandelier National Monument is located near Los Alamos, New Mexico. It is a beautiful, and fascinating place that offers a deep dive into the lives of the ancestral Pueblo people. The monument protects over 33,000 acres of rugged canyon and mesa country, showcasing evidence of human presence dating back more than 11,000 years. Bandelier is like stepping back in time with well-preserved archaeological sites, cliff dwellings, and ancient petroglyphs etched in stone.
This video explores the Main Loop trail a 1.4 mile loop trail that starts at the visitor center. It takes you through excavated sites, including the Tyuonyi Pueblo and cliff dwellings. On this trail you can even climb wooden ladders to enter and explore some of the small carved room, or "cavates."
