The Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd MP officially opened Airservices $9.2 million aviation rescue fire fighting station at Gladstone Airport on 8 December 2014.
The fire station sees the introduction of a new aviation fire service at Gladstone, providing an added layer of safety to all users of the airport.
Based on a modular, standardised design, the new fire station is staffed by 19 fire fighters and features two vehicle bays and a maintenance workshop to house and maintain three ultra-large fire vehicles.
A state-of-the-art Fire Control Centre is located in the station’s observation tower overlooking the airport, equipped with the latest communications and monitoring technology.
