Disclosure Day Movie Review by Sucharita Tyagi - The existential dread in Disclosure Day is present, but buried under popcorn-movie devices and sub-plots. A backpack full of futuristic-looking thumb drives, a handy pocket-sized pointy tool that grants the capable holder supernatural powers, beautiful animals which appear where they don’t belong, the Hansel and Gretel cottage makes an appearance, crop circles. invisible people, secret operatives dressed in identical clothing assembled in what may be described as a high-tech lair, chase sequences, a train sequence, cars falling off cliffs, grainy black and white footage, characters say things like “do not fear what you don’t understand” and “I stole the data they pay me to protect” all leading up to a big, cheesy climax where everything is neatly explained, in case you missed a detail or were confused why Colman Domingo spent most of his screentime building what looks like a set for a TV show on a sound stage.

Spielberg doesn’t want to challenge your cinematic knowledge, grasp of complication concepts, political beliefs or even worldview. Sure, the message here is to abandon war, get your head out of your ass and believe in things bigger than yourself, but the primary aim is to be a film for every age and demographic, and to entertain the heck out of a paying audience, which exits the theatre experiencing joy and hope, despite some apocalyptic warnings of doom and destruction.
