Here's a cover of the very popular William Tell Overture, requested by Giant Deflating Football and klop422.
This overture can be neatly divided into four sections of very different characters.
The first, "Dawn", stars the unusual combination of five solo cellos. At the outset, it's somewhat searching, but before long becomes quite calm and tender (0:57), although a couple of Timpani drumrolls hint at something threatening on the horizon.
This is the "Storm", which I found to imitate quite closely the "Thunderstorm" from Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, in the way that it begins quietly (2:49), building up to a powerful and, well, stormy episode by the whole orchestra (3:42).
The storm eventually passes, leading into a serene pastoral section (5:26). The melody here may be familiar to some, as it's been used in many cartoons to depict sunrise and other pleasant scenarios.
However, a military-style trumpet fanfare abruptly enters the scene (7:38) in order to introduce the most famous music in this overture. The Finale was written to depict a victorious battle (no horses or cavalry involved) for freedom, although it's been so often used to accompany galloping horses that it's almost impossible to avoid imagining those instead.
Regardless of what we think of when we listen to it, this last section serves as a reliably thrilling conclusion to the overture.
