This is the first flight of a 4 flight trip on Korean Air's A380 and 747-8 First Class Kosmo Suites. The A380 Kosmo suites has been updated into a fully enclosed suite on their 747-8, which is reviewed in my other videos.

Overall Korean Air is one of my favorite airlines to fly whether in economy or first class. I have previously flown twice in their economy class. Korean Air still maintains one of the more spacious economy class seating at 34 inches and it flies the least crowded A380 at 407 seats total. Compare this with United's new 777-300ER which is 31in in regular economy and 34 in in "premium" economy.
In first class, I have found the Korean Air service quality and consistency to rival that of Singapore and Cathay Pacific. On each of my four flights, the purser came by to introduce him/herself to each of the passengers in first class. The crew were always smiling and eager to help. The way they laid out the cutlery was always consistent and precisely done (notice how the bread knife is always put at an angle on towards the right side of the plate). Even during the last 20 minutes of the flight, the FAs came by to check up on each first class passenger to see if they needed anything else, such as drinks, before landing. This happened across all my four flights.
The A380 has the spacious open first generation Kosmo suites. They do not offer as much privacy since the side walls are not as high as the second generation Kosmo suites. However during sleeping, the seats do feel very private. The only issue I have with the first generation suites is that the awkwardly placed curved metal lamp. This lamp does not move or retract and became quite a nuisance while attempting to film out the window. The lamp also projects a very yellowish light and I didn’t really find it particularly useful for anything. Amenities for a long haul flight include a very nice DAVI amenity kit, good quality and comfortable pajamas, and slippers. The amenity kit is not as filled up as Asiana’s Salvatore Ferragamo amenity kit, which even included a small bottle of fragrance, but the Korean Air kit looks just as nice and functional.
The highlight of Korean’s A380 is the Celestial Bar and Duty Free Shop located in the rear of the plane. The Celestial bar has its own cocktail menu featuring Absolut Vodka. The menu includes a special rice-based Absolut that made for an interesting cocktail. The flavor was similar to that of a sweet crispy rice cake. There are also two smaller “bars” in the front of the plane. Similar to Asiana’s A380, there are couches and a small bar on the second level in the front of the plane. By the first class cabin on the first level, there is another small snack and drinks bar. Since there are bathrooms located next to the Duty Free shop and the Celestial Bar, those areas can get crowded due to passengers waiting to use the bathroom.
The food on this sector from NYC to Incheon was a bit disappointing, and I think this had to do with JFK catering since the food was significantly better on my other flights. The main beef main course looked almost like a kid’s meal, and the cod main course looked very artificial thanks to the strange color choices. Nevertheless, most of the food tasted great. Although Korean Air doesn’t serve a caviar course, they do serve a foie gras course.
Korean Air serves the 2004 Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque Blanc de Blanc on its New York and Paris routes. The confusing thing with Korean Air’s wine menu is that they list all wines in their inventory but each wine is offered on different routes, so you must check the asterisk to make sure a wine is available on your route. The menu becomes very confusing because of all the random exceptions, for example the Chateau Rieussec is only available on A380 flights so if you are flying New York to Seoul on the 747-8 you have one less choice.
Korean Air offers an excellent first class product with consistently great service and amenities, though the catering seems to be not as good when leaving from JFK.
