KILDALTON COLLEGE CIDER APPLE HARVEST 2020
In this video, we show you how we harvest the Bittersweet (Cider) apples at Kildalton College, Piltown, Co. Kilkenny.
Piltown and its surrounding areas have a strong tradition of growing desert, culinary and cider apples. Two bittersweet apple varieties Michelin and Dabinett are seen harvested here. These apples have high levels of tannins in comparison to eating apple varieties. Tannins give cider that distinctive dry flavor.
A Fendt 210 Vario was used to shake the trees and a Pattenden Grouse was used to collect the fallen apples. Many thanks to James O’Donoghue for the help. Enjoy!
