Fish Fry Recipe
#### Ingredients:
*For the Fish:*
1 lb (450g) fish fillets (such as tilapia, cod, or trout), skinless and boneless
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
1 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
*For the Coating:*
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup cornmeal or breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano (or thyme)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
*For Frying:*
Vegetable oil or canola oil (enough for frying)
#### Instructions:
1. *Prepare the Fish:*
Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
In a bowl, mix the lemon juice, salt, black pepper, paprika, and ground cumin. Rub this mixture all over the fish fillets and let them marinate for about 15-20 minutes.
2. *Prepare the Coating:*
In a shallow dish or plate, combine the flour, cornmeal (or breadcrumbs), paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
Mix well to ensure even distribution of the spices.
3. *Coat the Fish:*
Dredge each fish fillet in the coating mixture, pressing lightly to ensure it sticks. Shake off any excess.
4. *Heat the Oil:*
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of oil over medium-high heat. You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread or a pinch of flour into the oil; if it sizzles, the oil is hot enough.
5. *Fry the Fish:*
Carefully add the coated fish fillets to the hot oil, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the fish is golden brown and crispy and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). The fish should flake easily with a fork.
6. *Drain and Serve:*
Remove the fish from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Serve the fish hot with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
